The Theme of the Armenian Genocide

in the U.S. Historiography (1985-1994)

 

Summary

The article under disposal contains a historic-sociological and political analysis of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey. This study is based on the new primary sources and historiographic data, published in the US during the last decade. The author examines demographic and psychological aspects of genocide, casts a light upon the Ottoman army reforms and its function in the society. Considerable part of the issue is devoted to the missionaries' activity, revealing both positive and negative sides of their work. Such original sources, as the US intelligence service or Inquiry reports, contain concrete items of information and the political recommendations to the state leadership, are of special interest.
